To whoever has stumbled on this website, for the rest of your valuable time here I want you to do 3 things.

  1. Be completely honest about the state of your business. If you have a brand identity or you are considering a brand refresh read this with an open mind.

  2. Forget everything you may think you know about branding.

  3. Don’t be quick to deem something as “totally unnecessary.

If you feel that the investment of your business’s visual branding isn’t truly necessary or insignificant then you are just limiting your efforts for your business to succeed.

Have an open mind and read till the end..

Never Have To Change Your Brand

Identity For A Long-Long Time.

Position Your Business | Capture Hearts and Minds | Dominate Your Market

First question:

“What is actually holding you back from allowing you to achieving your business goals?

I think it’s because you've fallen into one or more of these traps:

Trap #1

You’re having trouble connecting sales.

Trap #2

You feel stuck with a clip art design that literally means nothing to you, nor does it reflect the values of your business. The $50 logo from Designer Bob on Fiverr failed to stand out, boost sales, and now you're stuck with what you paid for.

Trap #3

You feel embarrassed of your company's current visual branding, and secretly, you hate that it’s associated with you and your business. And now it’s time to want to level-up.

Trap #4

Investing in visual branding seems too costly, and you don't think it’s a legit real investment for your business. “I don’t need all that for my business” “I think we're fine without it.” or “we can get by with what we got”

Trap #5

Your last designer or agency missed the mark and you’re hesitant about working with designers.

Trap #6

Confused on what marketing tactic to try next after trying what seems like everything.

Trap #7

You're conversion rate from audience to customer is low and your thinking about throwing in the towel, but you still have hope inside things will turn around.

Trap #8

You have an idea in your head but you can’t articulate it. And when you share it to others it comes out as mumble-jumble.

Trap #9

You feel tired of trouble-shooting why your product or service isn’t selling.

Trap #10

You saw what your competitors are doing and you need to level up.

Trap #11

You want consistency in your visual branding but you don’t know what that looks like and you feel stuck.

Trap #12

Your audience base is growing and you need better representation.

Trap #13

Your product is strong and you know it demands a powerful brand to match.

Trap #14

You try to keep the work in-house by passing this issue off to someone else because it’s cheaper and more efficient. It’s become a burden on you and your team to get real work done. And frankly, you're tired of “just getting by.”

Trap #15

Your team has no cohesive branding guide rails to stay on brand.

Trap #16

Your brand feels and looks like your competitors across the street and you want to differentiate more.

Bonus Trap

The deadliest of them all: You continue to make little to no progress designing your own branding without consistency and it changes direction like the wind all the time. You have no time for real business matters, you get frustrated, discouraged,  quit, and repeat over again until the worst happens.

Know anybody like that?

Let’s Talk

In my early college years I ran a T-shirt business for extra side cash. I truly believed in my business and was hopeful that someday it become the next Nike. At the time I created my designs heavily inspired by the hippie-styled culture of Austin, Texas.

I didn’t know much about business at the time. As I was just a design student who loved to design cool T-shirts and sell them. The only problem was no one was buying them.

I was puzzled!

To fix this problem, I recklessly spent more money, on more product drops.

No return!

I sponsored a band for exposure and donated a portion of my product inventory. No return! I even spent money on a new website.

Again, No return!

In 2015, the Fitness Boom was taking off, so I jumped on that bandwagon. Fitness T-shirt brands were popping up like warts. Everyone seemed to be going that direction. I even took on a business partner, thinking together with the “extra help” I could change the course the business.

We changed our logo. We had a new product launch. We promoted the launch to everyone and everyone we knew. We were dreaming big! And I knew having a new business partner as a co-owner would help me turn things around. “Surely, this is going to work.” I said.

Nope!

I couldn’t understand why we weren't selling. Everyone thought my product was great. They even said they would buy but they never did. I later had more business partners come and go. And still the business never succeeded like I had dreamed. 3 years later I pulled the plug.

So why did my business fail? The branding was all there. Right?

Correct!

The problem was by business had no brand foundation to build on. The only thing it was built on was personal assumptions. I had no clarity on where I was going or who I was serving. And therefore, I always missed the mark.

Why My First Business Failed.

Design Centric Thinking means using collaboration to solve problems or create solutions using design

When companies such as Apple create their products they use a design centric method. Aesthetics is only fraction of it, but how it functions and interacts with the users is another.

Design should always find a problem to solve.

Yes! Design can sell, but if it doesn’t solve a meaningful problem and serves no one - What good is it?

Operating in the realm of design helps solve most of the world's problems.

Big companies like Apple or Starbucks typically design all their products and branding built around the user and user experience.

Starbucks produces coffee, So they build trendy-styled coffee shops for their consumers to sit and enjoy their beverage.

They understand coffee brings people together. Everything from the cups, the packaging of their tasty snacks, to the warm relaxed lighting that there known for. Customers can find a place to sit and enjoy their great tasting coffee with other people

Everything is designed with the end user in mind to help make life a little bit easier.

Your visual branding is no different. Using the power of design and design thinking, companies succeed 10x more than companies that don’t use the design centric thinking in their business.

Did you know?

“Design-centric businesses increase their revenue 32% faster than industry counterparts.”

According to McKinsey Design Index (MDI) (McKinsey.com)
